Alternative Foods for Local Goats


During the dry season, surely it is more difficult to find fresh food for cattle. Local Goats love fresh vegetables but it hardly available in dry season. Replacing the foods with complete foods bought from the factory is not a good idea as it will cost lots of money. However, without proper food, local goats will not be able to live healthy. If that situation happen, there would be great lost for farmers. The price for each cattle would be reduced hugely and they would not be able to produce good products. Luckily, there is solution to overcome the problems. The farmers can use the vegetables and bananas to keep the cattle stay healthy. The idea is to make local goats have enough foods while maximize their productivity at the same times. Let’s take closer look on what are available to be used as food for the cattle.
Banana fruit and tree utilization.
  1. Banana Leaves
    In every 100 grams of banana leaves, there are 4.31 grams of grease / protein, 33,10 grams of carbohydrates and calories at 224 k cal  This is all the nutrients required in the making of good quality food as suggested for the nutritional needs of livestock.
  2. Banana Skin
    The Nutrition in Banana is a good potential for food. Banana skin is a good source of carbohydrates for all cattle especially local goats. It has Carbohydrates, materials without nitrogen extract as large as 66.20% and still contain cellulose and hemicellulose at 40% of total crude fiber with crude fiber content at 13%. The use of it as food is easy, there is no need to cut it, just give it as is for the cattle.
  3. Banana stems
    Banana trunk can be used as food and also medicine at the same time. Use Banana which has up to 3 meters in height. Taller banana has more advantages than the shorter. Banana Stems has the chemical noradrenaline, 5-hydroxy triptamin, dopamine, vitamin A, vitamin B complex, vitamin C, F, G, serotonin, pectin, and tannin. The Sap itself contains tannin and gallic acid.
Using unused Vegetables.
Getting food for cattle is the important task for farmers. Types of foods for Local Goats has useful information about it. Limited areas to produce food for the cattle is major problem for all farmers. Without sufficient areas to produce foods, there would be lots of hungry cattle. Farmer with large areas to produce foods such as grasses may have no problem in producing foods. However, we should be well prepared for any bad events which may happen. Dry season may last longer and there would be no sufficient stock for all cattle. The solution is simple. Use unused Vegetables in kitchen. Here are all of them.
  1. Spinach Straw. It is one of the alternative food for local goats in dry season. It has an advantage over the others as it can last up to few years.
  2. Wet material consists of various vegetables.
Wet material that which be used for fermentation in the form of wet materials can be grouped into 2 things.
a. Market wastes such as unused fruit and vegetable. Be careful while using turnip as it may cause bloating for cattle. Other fruits and vegetables can be used for foods. Always make sure to wash the vegetables and fruits with clean and flowing water to remove dirt and pesticide.
b. Fresh grass and fresh leaves.
Any fresh leaves available around our homes can be used as food. To complement the nutritional needs of cattle, only select grasses or leaves from legume species which has a high protein.
Step by step to make it.
1. identify each materials which can be used as food. Always make sure to use good vegetables and leaves.
2. Determine the needs of food for each goats for fattening or breeding. Goats raised for fattening need a minimum of 14% protein while the protein needed for breeding 10%.

  2. Plastic bags / big plastic drum.
  3. Scales sit
Ingredients:
  1. Grass or unused vegetable and fruit.
  2. Bran
  3. Molasses
  4. Salt
  5. Probiotics
How to make it:
  1. Slice the vegetables, fruit or fresh leaves into small parts around 3-5 centimeters.
  2. Mix it with Probiotics and any other materials such as bran and Molasses.
  3. Re-mix it with vegetable, fruit and fresh leaves.
  4. Wait for an hour.
  5. Insert the food into plastic bags or plastic drum.
  6. After 24 hours, it is ready to be used as food for livestock.
  7. The food can be saved for a week.
